Everyone’s Talking About It: An Eight-Year-Old Thriller Series Suddenly Climbs Into Netflix’s Top 3
An eight-year-old thriller has surprised everyone by becoming one of the most-watched titles on Netflix this week.
Data from FlixPatrol shows that Absentia, a series that originally aired on Amazon Prime Video and AXN, has suddenly climbed into Netflix’s global Top 3 TV shows, even though the series ended several years ago.

The show first premiered in 2017 and ran for three seasons before being cancelled in 2021. It stars Stana Katic as FBI agent Emily Byrne.
Her character disappears while working on a serial-killer case and is later found alive with no memory of the years she was gone. When she returns, her life has changed completely, and she becomes connected to new crimes that put her under even more pressure.
The series had mixed reactions when it first came out. Rotten Tomatoes reported a 50% approval rating for the first season, and critics on Metacritic gave it average scores. Even with that, the story about a missing agent trying to rebuild her life seems to be attracting a new group of viewers now that it has popped up on Netflix.
The sudden rise in popularity has sparked fresh interest in a show that many people may have missed during its original run. With all three seasons available, new viewers are now binge-watching the mystery from start to finish.
