Aaron Paul, known for his iconic role in Breaking Bad, has announced he will not be returning as the voice of Powerplex for Invincible Season 4 on Amazon Prime Video.

The actor revealed the news during a recent interview promoting the video game Dispatch on “Kinda Funny Gamescast.”

Paul explained that while he loves the series and respects the creative team, the role of Powerplex was emotionally challenging.

“They asked me to come back for the next season, and I love the series and I’m such a fan of it, but it’s way too gruelling on my psyche… Powerplex man…” he said.

He added that the character’s turmoil required him to fully immerse himself, which became uncomfortable. “Powerplex isn’t just messing around, he’s going through turmoil, and how I approach everything, I really put myself in that skin. It was a skin I didn’t feel comfortable in to be honest. I didn’t want to do it anymore,” Paul explained.

While Paul is stepping away, the future of Powerplex in the show remains intact. Fans of the Invincible comics know that the villain is expected to return, though the voice actor for the character has yet to be announced.

Season 4 will continue to follow Mark Grayson’s journey, with returning cast members including Steven Yuen, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, and Gillian Jacobs.

Paul made it clear that his departure comes without any ill will toward the team behind the show. “Everyone involved in the show is amazing, but what it did to me, I didn’t like. I couldn’t continue,” he said.

It will be interesting to see how the series handles Powerplex’s return and how fans respond to the new voice behind the character. For many, Aaron Paul’s candid explanation sheds light on the emotional toll of voice acting in intense roles.
