James Van Der Beek Wears Varsity Blues Jersey in Heartfelt Video for Cancer Auction
James Van Der Beek has shared a heartfelt video wearing his iconic Varsity Blues football jersey to raise money for his cancer treatment and to support other families facing similar battles.
The actor, known for his roles in Varsity Blues and Dawson’s Creek, posted about the effort on Instagram.
“By popular demand! My favorite jersey. Maybe it was all fun plays we got run in the football sequences for the away games… but I always loved putting on the varsity whites,” Van Der Beek wrote, reflecting on his 1999 sports movie.
He added that the response to last year’s jersey release had been overwhelming. “It has meant more than I can ever express. I hope you enjoy this one as much as the original. For me, every jersey I sign is a magical full-circle moment.”
Fans can purchase unsigned jerseys for $40 or signed ones for $80. All proceeds go toward Van Der Beek’s colorectal cancer treatment and to help other families going through similar challenges. The 48-year-old actor publicly revealed his stage 3 cancer diagnosis last year.
Earlier this month, he also auctioned off Dawson’s Creek memorabilia to raise additional funds. In September, the Dawson’s Creek cast reunited for the first time since the show ended in 2003. Van Der Beek had planned to attend but was unable to due to a stomach virus. Lin-Manuel Miranda stepped in for him, and the event raised money for both Van Der Beek’s treatment and the F Cancer organization.
“Thank you — for the love, the prayers, the support, and for making this jersey mean something far bigger than a movie,” Van Der Beek wrote on Instagram. “Endlessly grateful for all of you.”
