Michael DeLano, ‘Rhoda’ and ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Actor, Dies at 84 – Cause of Death Confirmed
Michael DeLano, known for his work in both film and television, has died at the age of 84. His wife, Jean Delano, shared the news with The Hollywood Reporter and said he passed away on Oct. 20 after suffering a heart attack in a Las Vegas hospital.
DeLano built a long career that stretched across decades. He became familiar to TV viewers in the 1970s through steady roles on several major network shows. He appeared in ABC’s “Firehouse” as Sonny Capito and later showed up on NBC’s “Supertrain.” Many fans also remember him from “Rhoda,” where he played the lounge singer Johnny Venture.
He didn’t limit himself to television. DeLano’s face became known to moviegoers, too, especially through his appearance in “Ocean’s Eleven” and its sequel, “Ocean’s Twelve,” where he played a casino manager. His final credited role came in 2012 on USA Network’s “Royal Pains.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DeLano had lived in Las Vegas since the early 1990s. He performed music around the city for years and was a regular at the Dispensary Lounge, where he entertained crowds with his classic vocal style.
Jean Delano described his passing simply, saying he died of a heart attack. “He died Oct. 20 in a Las Vegas hospital,” she told the outlet.
