Mia Goth recently spoke about her role in the troubled MCU Blade reboot and gave an update on the film’s status.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Goth, who was cast as the villain Lilith, admitted she doesn’t know much about what’s happening with the project. “I mean, I don’t know what’s going on with that. I think that they want to make it,” she said.

“It’s such an important film for them, they’re taking their time with it. I really don’t have any information. I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has. We will see.”

Goth also shared details about her early involvement in the project, including auditions and fittings. “Yeah, the furthest it got with me…I auditioned for that. I flew to Atlanta, we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I. We did a costume fitting and a wig fitting. I was very excited for the direction it was going. It was very cool,” she explained.

She praised Mahershala Ali’s approach to the role, saying, “Mahershala had such an interesting take on it. It was great. And then it just unravelled from there, unfortunately.”

The Blade reboot has faced a long and complicated development process. After New Line Cinema’s original trilogy ran from 1998 to 2004, Marvel Studios regained the rights to the character in 2011 and began developing a new version.

Mahershala Ali, known for his role as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Luke Cage, expressed interest in playing Blade in 2019, and Marvel officially confirmed him as the lead at San Diego Comic-Con that same year. Ali also made a brief uncredited voice appearance in Eternals in 2021.

Over the years, the film saw multiple directors attached, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, and went through several delays. By mid-2024, Eric Pearson was rewriting the script while Marvel searched for a new director. The project was removed from the release schedule in October 2024, but Marvel confirmed the film is still in development with Ali set to star.
