Sonic Spinoff & New TMNT Live-Action Movie Race Into 2028 Release Slate – Here’s When The Movies Will Be Released

Paramount is preparing a busy movie lineup for the next few years, and the studio has now locked in release dates for new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and “Sonic the Hedgehog” films. The information comes from Paramount’s latest announcement.

The studio revealed that a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie will hit theaters on November 17, 2028. It will be a mix of live action and CG animation, bringing Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo back to the big screen in a style aimed at families.

This will be the first live-action Turtles project since the 2016 film, which did not perform well. Paramount later shifted to animation and found better results with the 2023 movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” A sequel to that animated film is already set for September 17, 2027.

Paramount also dated an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” for December 22, 2028. The project is separate from “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” which is planned for release in early 2027.

The franchise has become one of Paramount’s most successful properties, with the first three films earning more than $1 billion worldwide. Producer Neal H. Moritz, who helped turn Sonic into a hit for the studio, is also involved in the new Turtles film.

Along with the big 2028 releases, Paramount shared that it will bring the original “Top Gun” back to theaters on May 13, 2026, to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

The 1986 film, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Tony Scott, became the biggest movie of its year. Cruise later returned for the 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick,” which went on to become the most successful film in Paramount’s entire history.

Paramount has not given any story details for the new “Sonic” or “TMNT” movies yet. For now, the studio is simply promising major returns for both franchises.
