James Gunn Shares Fans’ Most Requested Version of Batsuit
James Gunn has shared what fans want most for the next Batman costume in the DC Universe, revealing that the classic blue and grey suit tops the list.
Gunn discussed the topic on Threads, saying that while fans have clear preferences, the suit itself is less important than the story and the character. “The most requested thing would be the blue & grey. Then the yellow around the bat… But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, & the person who plays him,” he wrote.

He explained that fan opinions are divided, even for the most requested designs. “Individuals are making clear what they want to see. But even the most requested thing – the blue and grey – is split evenly with people who don’t want that. And the other two most requested things are also things just as many people say they don’t want to see. So you have to do what’s right by the specific film and story,” Gunn added.

The new Batman will appear in the upcoming DCU film, The Brave and The Bold, which will focus on the “Bat-Family” and introduce Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. Gunn described the story as a “strange father and son story” centered on Batman and Robin.
Gunn also clarified the place of this new Batman in the DCU. Following the hiring of Gunn and Safran, DC CEO David Zaslav said, “There’s not going to be four Batmans.” Ben Affleck will not return as the DCEU Batman, while Matt Reeves’s version of the character will continue separately under the DC Elseworlds label. The Brave and The Bold is based on Grant Morrison’s 2006–2013 Batman run in the comics.
Director Andy Muschietti, known for The Flash, was initially attached to direct the film with his sister Barbara co-producing alongside Gunn and Safran. However, development was delayed in December 2024 to avoid conflicting with Reeves’s The Batman: Part II.
By February of this year, a writer was already working closely with Gunn on the script, though Muschietti was no longer actively involved at that point.
