Quentin Tarantino is thinking about exploring more of the Kill Bill universe. At the premiere of his new Fortnite short film, Yuki’s Revenge, the director revealed he has ideas for a prequel focused on Bill’s backstory and the mentors who shaped him.

According to Tarantino, this concept had originally been part of the Kill Bill script, but it was cut due to budget limits and the already long runtime of over four hours.

The Fortnite adaptation kept most of the story intact but replaced traditional elements with Fortnite characters and removed the violent content.

Tarantino also performed motion capture for the first time, while Uma Thurman, who plays the Bride, tried motion capture for the first time as well. Thurman described the experience as fun and low-pressure compared to filming the original Kill Bill movies. “It was like the loose and fun shoot we had for Pulp Fiction,” she said.

Tarantino explained that he isn’t looking to expand into video games in general. Instead, he saw the project as a way to tell a lost chapter of Kill Bill.

He also hinted at future projects blending anime and digital effects, mentioning ideas like a Vega Brothers film. “I could see some world between this and Japanese anime that I could find some happy medium… between the things that I couldn’t physically do,” he said.

When asked about continuing Kill Bill, Tarantino shared: “We’ll see. I’ve got other things to do … I have a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind but I was wiped out. I like the idea of a Bill origin. And the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen.”

Tarantino has long discussed the possibility of continuing the Kill Bill saga. Back in 2004, he planned a sequel involving Nikki, the daughter of Vernita Green, seeking revenge. He also considered anime films focusing on the origins of Bill and the Bride.

Over the years, he mentioned potential third and fourth volumes, exploring cycles of revenge and new characters, sometimes involving the Bride’s daughter, B.B. While he has previously ruled out sequels due to fatigue, recent interviews suggest the idea of a prequel focusing on Bill’s past remains appealing.

Tarantino’s approach shows he still has ideas for the Kill Bill universe, even if a direct sequel is unlikely. A prequel exploring Bill’s origins could bring a fresh perspective to the story and satisfy fans curious about the characters’ backstories. What do you think about a Kill Bill prequel?
