According to Spotify, the animated film’s soundtrack was the second most-streamed album of 2025 worldwide, just behind Bad Bunny’s DeBĂŤ TiRAR MáS FOToS. K-pop Demon Hunters’ song Golden was also the seventh most-played track globally.
With the film becoming a major hit since its Netflix release on June 20, the soundtrack’s success isn’t surprising. Its streaming numbers even surpassed albums from pop icons like Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Sabrina Carpenter, showing how much the film has impacted popular culture.
K-pop Demon Hunters is an American animated musical urban fantasy film directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, who co-wrote the screenplay with Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation for Netflix, the film features voices from Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun. It tells the story of a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, who secretly fight demons while competing against a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who are also demons.
The story was inspired by Kang’s Korean heritage, combining mythology, demonology, and K-pop influences. The animation, handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks, draws from concert lighting, music videos, anime, and Korean dramas. The soundtrack, composed by Marcelo Zarvos and other musicians, became a massive hit.
Since its release, the film has been praised for its animation, visual style, writing, voice acting, and music. It became Netflix’s most-watched original title with 325 million views. Its sing-along theatrical release was the widest for a Netflix film and the first to top the US box office, even surpassing Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022).
The soundtrack also achieved historic milestones. It became the first film soundtrack to have four songs in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100, was certified Platinum by the RIAA in October, and received five Grammy nominations. Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation also released a short film, Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story, and a sequel is planned for 2029.
