Rumors about a new live-action Power Rangers series have been spreading for months, and now the people behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians have confirmed that the project is real.

In an interview with MovieWeb during the blue carpet event for Percy Jackson Season 2, showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz finally addressed the speculation.

Season 2 of Percy Jackson is set to arrive on Disney+ on December 10, and while celebrating the upcoming release, MovieWeb asked the pair about reports saying they were taking on the Power Rangers reboot. Steinberg did not try to hide it. He said, “The rumor is true.”

Shotz was more careful with his words and said he could not go into detail about the direction of the show or how closely it will follow the long-running franchise. Even so, he did share that bringing the story to life is something he and Steinberg are excited about. In his words, “You are asking questions that you know I can’t answer. Let’s just say we very much hope to bring that story to life, so that’s all I can say at this point.”

Steinberg also said he could not reveal whether the new show will bring back classic Rangers like Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly or introduce a brand-new team, but he made it clear that he is looking forward to working on the project. He added, “I can not tell you, but I am very, very excited for that story.”

Reports linking Steinberg and Shotz to the reboot first appeared in March. Those early reports said that the two would not only write the new series but also run the show and executive produce it.
