Matthew Lillard Reacts to Quentin Tarantino Insulting Him: “It Hurts Your Feelings”
Matthew Lillard spoke openly this week about a comment Quentin Tarantino made about him, saying the filmmaker’s words did sting even if he tried to brush them off at first.
Lillard brought up the topic while talking to fans at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio, where he addressed remarks Tarantino made during a recent podcast.
The actor joked about it at first, telling the crowd that Tarantino had said he didn’t like him as an actor. The audience reacted loudly, but once things calmed down, Lillard admitted that the comment wasn’t easy to hear.
He said, “It hurts your feelings. It f*****’ sucks.” He went on to explain that it’s the kind of thing no one would dare say to a major Hollywood star, which made it tougher to swallow.
Lillard also talked about how his standing with fans doesn’t match how the industry views him. He said he feels a lot of support at conventions, but not the same level of respect in Hollywood. In his words, “I’m very popular in this room. I’m not very popular in Hollywood.” A fan in the audience shouted back that they loved him, and he thanked them.

Tarantino’s comments came from an appearance on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, where he discussed movies and actors he had strong opinions about. During the conversation, he shared that he wasn’t a fan of several actors, including Paul Dano, Owen Wilson, and Lillard. His remarks quickly spread online, leading to questions about why he singled out certain names.
Lillard chose to talk about it directly with fans, showing both humor and honesty while responding to the criticism.
