HBO has released the first look at the upcoming third season of House of the Dragon, giving fans an early glimpse of what’s to come.

The fantasy drama, set in the world of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, is expected to premiere in mid-2026. This season will consist of eight episodes and will continue to follow the Targaryen family, covering events from Martin’s prequel novel, Fire & Blood.

Ryan Condal returns as the showrunner for season three, taking the lead on the story and guiding the production. Filming for the new season took place in Los Angeles from March to October.

Directors Clare Kilner, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere were brought on to handle various episodes, while the writing team included Condal, Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett.

The season features a strong returning cast with Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen and Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen. Other notable actors include Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, and Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole.

Young Targaryens such as Harry Collett, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, and Phia Saban will also appear, continuing the complex family dynamics. Additional characters include Larys Strong, Jason and Tyland Lannister, Hugh Hammer, Alyn of Hull, and others.

The third season picks up with political intrigue, power struggles, and personal conflicts among the Targaryens and their allies. Fans can expect the same mix of dragons, betrayal, and epic battles that have made the series a hit.

With its premiere scheduled for 2026, House of the Dragon’s third season promises to continue building the rich, dramatic world fans have come to love.
