Netflix’s new documentary series, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, has become a major hit worldwide since its release on December 2. The series, directed by Alexandria Stapleton, explores the s**** misconduct allegations against the rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

The docuseries combines archival footage of Combs with interviews from people who know him, including Kalenna Harper, Aubrey O’Day, Erick Sermon, Al B. Sure!, Mark Curry, Lil’ Cease, Greg Kading, Roger Bonds, Capricorn Clark, Kirk Burrowes, and several others.

Executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson announced the project back in December 2023, stating that proceeds would go to victims of the alleged misconduct. Jackson spent months gathering sources willing to share their experiences and insights about Combs. Former partner Cassie Ventura declined to participate, but Jackson spoke with her and her husband, Alex Fine, to better understand events surrounding Combs.

Netflix confirmed the production in September 2024, shortly after Combs’ arrest on charges including racketeering, s** trafficking, and transportation to engage in p*******. Jackson and Stapleton emphasized that the series is meant to provide a careful, human-focused look at the story.

“This is a story with significant human impact. It is a complex narrative spanning decades, not just the headlines or clips seen so far. We remain steadfast in our commitment to give a voice to the voiceless and to present authentic and nuanced perspectives,” they said.

The series also includes footage of Combs from before his 2024 arrest. Stapleton clarified, “It came to us, we obtained the footage legally and have the necessary rights.”

The trailer dropped on December 1, and the series followed on Netflix the next day. In just six days, Sean Combs: The Reckoning was viewed 21.8 million times, making it the second-most-watched show on Netflix that week, just behind Stranger Things Volume 1, Season 5.
