Amy Schumer Splits From Chris Fischer Among Speculation That Dramatic Weight Loss Caused Divorce
Comedian and actress Amy Schumer and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, have announced they are divorcing after seven years of marriage. The couple, who share a son, Gene, made the news public on December 12 through an Instagram post.
In her message, Schumer called the split amicable and emphasized that they will remain focused on co-parenting their child. “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time,” she wrote. Schumer also addressed rumors suggesting her recent weight loss played a role in the divorce. “Not because I dropped some lbs… Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever,” she added.
The star previously revealed that she was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in 2024, a disease that caused facial swelling and could have been life-threatening. In a now-deleted video, Schumer explained that the disease had cleared and that her health, not her appearance, was the real story.
She clarified further: “Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or [his] autism. Fingers crossed we can make it through. He’s the best.”
According to People, a source close to the couple said the split is peaceful. “There’s nothing ugly. It’s a cohesive split. They’ve just been finalizing a few things,” the source explained. Schumer and Fischer began dating in 2017, married in February 2018, and welcomed their son in May 2019.
Fans and fellow celebrities have shown support for Schumer, sending love and positive messages. Among them were Debra Messing, Jillian Bell, Billie Lee, Carla Johnston, and Margo Price, who shared heart emojis to show encouragement as Schumer moves forward.
