Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series has added its first non-binary lead ahead of production.

Lola Petticrew will star alongside previously confirmed lead Toby Wallace, Deadline reports. The series is set to begin filming in Italy in 2026.

Details about Petticrew’s character are still under wraps, as are the exact time period the series will cover. The show is expected to take inspiration from the Assassin’s Creed video games but will not adapt a specific story from the games. Italy will serve as both a filming location and a setting for the series.

Petticrew is best known for playing Dolours Price in the Peabody Award-winning series Say Nothing, which explores The Troubles in Northern Ireland from the 1970s to 1990s. They are also starring in the upcoming British film I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, which is currently in production, according to Deadline.

Netflix first announced multiple Assassin’s Creed projects in October 2020, including a live-action series, an animated series, and an anime series. The live-action series is produced by Ubisoft Film & Television.

Initially, Jeb Stuart was set to write the show, with Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik as executive producers, but Collider reported in January 2023 that Stuart was no longer involved. In July, Netflix and Ubisoft confirmed Roberto Patino and David Wiener as producers, and by the end of the year, Wallace and Petticrew had joined the cast.
