Josh Gad Slams Donald Trump, Calls Him a “Psychopath” Over Rob Reiner Comments
Hollywood and political figures have condemned President Donald Trump over his reaction to the reported deaths of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple, both in their late 70s, were found dead in their home, and police have taken their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, into custody in connection with the deaths.
Trump responded to the tragedy on his Truth Social account, writing that Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” He went on to claim that Reiner had “driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump” and called him “a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star.”

The reaction sparked outrage among entertainment and political figures. On the daytime talk show The View, co-hosts criticized Trump’s response. When Sunny Hostin began reading Trump’s post on air, Whoopi Goldberg interrupted, saying: “Don’t read it, just tell them that it’s there.” Hostin added, “I don’t think that’s something we should be hearing about.”
Ana Navarro, also a co-host, delivered a strong rebuke. “For Trump to have put that out today, I’m gonna say it: You know, damn it, there’s an American family grieving. This is a tragedy not just for the family, but for all who knew and loved him, and for the President of the United States to make this about him as a way to attack Rob Reiner, because he exercised his American right to speak up with what he disagreed with, is shameful. It is disgraceful. And of all the disgusting things that Donald Trump has done, this is right up there,” Navarro said.
Goldberg, who worked with Reiner on the 1996 drama Ghosts of Mississippi, praised him as “an outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man.”
Other celebrities also voiced their anger. Musician Jack White wrote on Instagram: “Trump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone’s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin. Shame on you Trump and anyone who defends this. God bless you Rob Reiner and thank you for what you gave the world. I never even met you and I still stand by you.”

Actor Josh Gad also criticized Trump on Threads, saying: “There is no low that is too low for this f***** psychopath. Rob Reiner was 1000 times the man you are and unlike you, he actually cared about the American people. Go paint your hand on your gold f**** toilet and destroy things like the White House. That’s what you do best.”

Despite the backlash, Trump doubled down on his criticism later at a press conference. He said, “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned… I thought he was very bad for our country.”
Nick Reiner remains in custody. His bail was originally set at $4 million but was later revoked as the investigation continues.
