Jimmy Kimmel Blasts Trump as “Hateful and Vile” Over Rob Reiner Remarks: “That Corroded Brain Is in Charge of Our Lives”
Jimmy Kimmel criticized Donald Trump during Monday’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after the former president made controversial remarks about the tragic deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer.
Trump had posted on Truth Social claiming that Reiner’s death was “due to the anger he caused others” through what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Kimmel didn’t hold back. “What we need at a time like this, besides common sense when it comes to guns and mental health care, is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president, because he has none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense,” Kimmel said.
He then read Trump’s full Truth Social post, highlighting the harsh tone the former president used in discussing Reiner’s death.
Kimmel called the post “so hateful and vile” and said he initially thought it was fake. “Even for him, that seemed like too much. But nothing is ever too much for him,” he added.
The host also criticized Trump for doubling down during a press conference instead of retracting his statements. Trump said, “I wasn’t a fan of his at all… He became like a deranged person. Trump derangement syndrome. So, I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.” Kimmel responded sharply: “That corroded brain is in charge of our lives. If you voted for that, it’s okay to reconsider. It’s perfectly fine.”
Kimmel encouraged viewers to continue calling out Trump’s behavior, citing his personal experience with Reiner. “I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth. So we’re going to do that over and over again until the rest of us wake up,” he said.
Other late-night hosts also addressed Reiner’s death. Stephen Colbert opened his show by acknowledging the tragedy of the Reiners’ deaths alongside other recent violent incidents, noting that some events are too painful to turn into comedy.
Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele, 68, were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home on Sunday. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed the booking and described the case as “a very, very tragic incident.” Charges have not yet been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
This shocking situation, combined with Trump’s controversial remarks, has sparked widespread discussion about leadership, empathy, and public responsibility.
