Avengers: Doomsday Countdown Begins as Russo Brothers Drop New Teaser
Marvel Studios has officially started the countdown to Avengers: Doomsday, the film that could decide the future of the entire franchise.
With one year left until release, directors Joe and Anthony Russo made it clear that the long road to Marvel’s next big moment is now underway.
Right at midnight Pacific Time on December 18, the Russo Brothers shared a short teaser on Instagram. The clip shows a digital clock counting down the exact time left until the movie hits theaters.
The video is simple, but it includes one clear warning. For a split second, the numbers break apart and flash the word “DOOMSDAY” before returning to the countdown. The post confirms that Marvel’s marketing push has officially begun, according to the Russo Brothers’ social media post.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to open in theaters on December 18, 2026. The movie is being framed as a turning point for Marvel Studios after a tough year at the box office. While recent films earned solid reviews, they failed to bring back the massive global success Marvel once had during the Infinity Saga era. Because of that, Doomsday is being treated as a make-or-break release for the studio.
The film brings together a massive cast from across Marvel’s universe. Robert Downey Jr. is returning in a surprising role as Doctor Doom. Chris Evans is also set to appear again as Steve Rogers, a detail that has already sparked major discussion online.
The movie will mix characters from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and even the former Fox-era X-Men, raising expectations to an all-time high.
Marvel is also planning an aggressive marketing strategy. According to industry reports, four different Avengers: Doomsday teasers will roll out over the next few weeks. Each one will play only in theaters before Avatar: Fire and Ash. By tying the footage to James Cameron’s new movie, Marvel is making sure millions of viewers see the teasers on the big screen.
One of those teasers has already leaked online. The footage reportedly shows Steve Rogers riding a motorcycle to his old home after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
The clip ends with the message “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday”. While Marvel has not officially commented on the leak, it strongly suggests that Steve Rogers will play a major role in the story.
Rumors point to a central conflict between Doctor Doom and Steve Rogers, with Doom targeting him because of the timeline changes caused by his actions at the end of Endgame. None of this has been confirmed by Marvel, but the leaked footage has only added to the hype and speculation.
