Jonathan Bailey Breaks Records as 2025’s Highest-Grossing Actor

Jonathan Bailey has been named the highest-grossing actor of 2025, Variety reports. The actor reached this milestone with his roles in Wicked: For Good and Jurassic World: Rebirth, both of which performed strongly at the box office.

Jurassic World: Rebirth earned over $868 million globally, with $339.6 million from the U.S. and Canada and $529.2 million internationally. Wicked: For Good brought in around $475 million worldwide, including $316 million from North America and $159 million from other regions. Together, Bailey’s films have earned more than $1 billion in 2025.

While both films are sequels based on popular franchises and feature major stars like Scarlett Johansson and Ariana Grande, Bailey’s achievement is historic. Variety notes that he is the first openly gay actor to claim the title of highest-grossing actor in a calendar year.

In Wicked: For Good, Bailey plays Fiyero, a role that has won praise from critics. The Guardian said he “uncorks an outrageous scene-stealer as the hetero-camp Fiyero,” while ABC News described his performance as “a display of song, dance and acting virtuosity.”

Bailey also contributed to the soundtrack with the song “Dancing Through Life,” which reached number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100. His performance earned him a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, and the cast was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Bailey also took to the stage in 2025, starring in Shakespeare’s Richard II at the Bridge Theatre, directed by Nicholas Hytner. His work across big-budget films, musicals, and theater shows his versatility as a performer and highlights why 2025 has been such a landmark year for him.
