Tech influencer Lamarr Wilson has died at the age of 48, with his family confirming his passing on December 13. According to public records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Wilson passed away on November 21, and the cause of death was ruled a suicide.
Known for his tech reviews and online presence, Wilson gained a significant following, amassing over 1 million followers on TikTok alone.
He was widely recognized as the “unboxing guy” and shared his expertise on tech, gaming, and entertainment. His family reflected on his legacy in a Facebook post, saying, “It is with deep feelings of hurt pain that The Family of LaMarr Wilson would like to make this statement regarding our beloved Family member LaMarr Wilson passing and what he aspired to become with YouTube, Google and All his Social Media Platforms he loved working with.”
Before moving to Los Angeles, Wilson worked as a tech educator in Chicago and Milwaukee public schools, teaching staff and students about IT skills. He later relocated to Los Angeles to expand his career as a tech personality. His family described him as the “Go To” member of the Wilson family and shared that he had numerous projects in progress with tech and media companies.
Wilson began his YouTube channel in 2008 and transitioned to short-form videos in 2021. He appeared in George Takei’s series Takei’s Take in 2013 and participated in a panel on cross-generational content at VidCon 2025. Sharing advice to his followers, he said, “No one can do what you do the way YOU do it. It’s as simple as that. You’re in competition with yourself and your last piece of content…”
In addition to his online work, Wilson collaborated with major brands including Xbox, Apple, and Nintendo. He was also appointed to serve as a judge for the CES Innovation Awards in January 2026.
Fans and followers responded to his passing with heartfelt messages on Instagram and TikTok. One wrote, “Rest In Peace beloved Lamarr Wilson. You have always cheered me up in a dark moment of my life. You shaped my childhood and you were such a funny and lovable human. I hope you’re resting easy in heaven my dear friend. We love you so much.”
Wilson’s last social media posts included a holiday tech gift guide in November and reflections on his 48th birthday in October, where he celebrated losing 48 pounds and shared lessons about health and personal discipline.
