Jennifer Lawrence Reveals Which Co-Star Was the Hardest to Work With
Jennifer Lawrence has opened up about one of the toughest actors to work with during her career, and it might surprise fans. The Oscar-winning star shared her experience filming the 2021 Netflix dark comedy Don’t Look Up, which also starred Meryl Streep and Timothée Chalamet.
The film follows two astronomers who discover a comet heading toward Earth and struggle to convince world leaders of the impending disaster.
While the movie became a zany comedy under director Adam McKay, Lawrence revealed that the actor who made shooting especially challenging was Jonah Hill, who plays Jason Orlean, the president’s son and Chief-of-Staff.
In a 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence described the difficulty of staying serious during scenes with Hill. “It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing. We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing,” she said.
Lawrence explained that many of Hill’s lines were unscripted and that his improvisation skills made it tough to keep a straight face. She added that while other cast members tried to improvise, Hill and Streep were the only ones who could do it effectively. “I mean, he’s a master, he’s a comedic master. I mean we all did some [improv] just not as well as Jonah,” Lawrence noted.
Despite the challenges, Lawrence’s comments reflect admiration for Hill’s talent. Working with a comedic master pushed her to stay sharp and react genuinely, creating memorable moments on screen.
