Netflix’s Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series Finally Has a Director
Netflix has officially found a director for its upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Variety reports that Johan Renck, the Swedish filmmaker behind HBO’s Emmy-winning mini-series Chernobyl, will helm the show.
The series has already been building its main cast. Toby Wallace, known for Euphoria, and Lola Petticrew from Say Nothing were recently announced as leads. Zachary Hart, who appeared in Slow Horses, and Laura Marcus from Death by Lightning will also appear as regulars.
Assassin’s Creed is based on the hugely popular video game franchise about time-travel and secret wars. Netflix first announced the series in July, making it the first show under its partnership with Ubisoft, which began in 2020.
Plot details are still mostly under wraps, but the official logline describes the story as “centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions—one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
This project adds to Netflix’s growing slate of video game adaptations and promises to bring the Assassin’s Creed universe to life with a mix of historical drama and action.
