Netflix Pulls the Plug on Yet Another Hit Drama After Just One Season

Netflix’s Spanish drama Olympo will not be returning for a second season, What’s on Netflix has confirmed.

The show, which premiered on June 20, focused on the intense world of young athletes training at the fictional Pyrenean High Performance Center. It explored the pressures and sacrifices required to reach the top in competitive sports, while also delving into the personal lives of the students.

The series featured Clara Galle as Amaia Olaberria, a competitive artistic swimmer, alongside Nira Osahia, Agustín Della Corte, Nuno Gallego, María Romanillos, and others. It was directed by Ibai Abad, Ana Vázquez, Marçal Forés, and Daniel Barone.

According to the Spanish social media account Previously Serie, “Clara Galle and Agustín Della Corte have not received a call to return 6 months after its release…We can confirm that the teams are already involved in other projects.” This has now been backed by official confirmation from Netflix and reporting from TuSubtitulo.

When Olympo was first released, some reports suggested a second season was already planned, though Netflix clarified that no official decision had been made at the time. The show performed well internationally, spending five weeks in the global top 10 with 113.3 million viewing hours and 17.7 million completed views.

It also appeared in the daily top 10 in 78 countries and spent over 36 days in the Spanish daily TV top 10. Despite this, Netflix has opted not to continue the series.

Olympo was created and written by Jan Matheu, Laia Foguet, and Ibai Abad. The series followed the lives of the country’s most promising young athletes as they competed for sponsorships from the global brand Olympo and tried to prove themselves in their sports. The story mixed competitive drama with personal relationships, including friendships, rivalries, and romantic connections.
