This Super Yacht Skipper Reveals His Favorite Celebrity Passenger
A super yacht skipper who regularly works for extremely wealthy clients has shared some behind-the-scenes stories, including which famous guest left the best impression.
The skipper spoke anonymously on Reddit, giving readers a rare look at life onboard yachts used by some of the world’s richest and most famous people.
The skipper posted in a Reddit AMA, or “Ask Me Anything,” forum. He explained that he has spent the past ten years working his way up on luxury yachts, moving from deck duties to the bridge.
During that time, he says he has worked for people from movies, politics, finance, art, and technology. He described those years by writing, “For the last 10 years, I’ve worked all the way from deck to bridge, and have worked for the biggest names in movie, art, finance, politics and technology, each of these experiences had their very good and their very bad.”
The post quickly caught attention, and users began asking questions about strange moments and unusual requests from guests. One story that stood out involved food. Despite having access to high-end meals and a fully stocked kitchen, some guests wanted nothing fancy at all. The skipper shared, “We onboarded charter guests from the Bahamas with the most wonderful galley full of extravagant food and they literally wanted nuggets and chips and burgers for 10 days and nothing else… we were in a bit of trouble there.”
The Reddit user also detailed his favorite celebrity who boarded the super yacht, with that crown going to Tom Hanks, and the Hanks family more generally.
“The Hanks family. I love those guys,” the captain said before adding: “Mr Hanks has one of the strongest moral compasses I’ve ever seen and I have nothing but praise for that man and his family.”
While the captain did not name the yacht or all of the guests he has worked for, past reports have linked major celebrities to luxury yacht trips.
All of the skipper’s comments come directly from his anonymous Reddit AMA, where he chose not to reveal his name or the specific vessel he works on.
