‘The Odyssey’ Trailer Smashes Christopher Nolan’s Personal Record!
Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, has made a huge splash online. The trailer racked up over 121 million views across social media in its first 24 hours, more than double the views of Nolan’s previous hit, Oppenheimer, which reached 50 million in the same time frame.
Data from entertainment analytics company WaveMetrix shows that TikTok contributed the largest share of views, at 27%.
YouTube followed closely with 26%, then Facebook at 21%, Instagram at 18%, and X at 10%. The trailer also became Universal Pictures’ most-watched of the year, surpassing Wicked: For Good, which had 113 million views in a single day. Overall, The Odyssey was the eighth most-viewed trailer of 2025, according to Forbes.

The Odyssey is Nolan’s first trailer since winning multiple Oscars for Oppenheimer, including awards for directing and producing. The film is an epic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek tale, following the legendary journey of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, as he tries to return home after the Trojan War. Anne Hathaway stars as his wife, Penelope, and the film also features Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.
The project came together quickly. Nolan began writing the script in March 2024 and secured a deal with Universal Pictures by October. Casting was finalized throughout late 2024 and early 2025, with filming running from February to August.
The production took place in locations around the world, including Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland, and Western Sahara. With an estimated $250 million budget, it’s the most expensive film Nolan has ever made, and it is being shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film.
The Odyssey is scheduled to hit theaters in the U.S. on July 17, 2026.
The excitement around The Odyssey is understandable given Nolan’s track record and the massive online response. The trailer’s record-breaking views show how eager audiences are for his next big story. I’m curious to see if the film will live up to the hype when it hits theaters.
