Billie Lourd, daughter of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, recently shared a heartfelt message reflecting on her late mother’s lasting impact. On December 27, the ninth anniversary of Fisher’s death, Lourd posted on Instagram, including a photo with her parents alongside a picture of her own children.

She expressed that her mother lives on through her grandchildren. “I woke up this morning to my kids grabbing my face, and I told them that their grandma would have loved them so much,” Lourd wrote.

She continued, “The joy they bring me only exists because of my mom. She may not be here physically, but she’s present in these lives that wouldn’t exist without her.” Lourd also described experiencing her grief in a bittersweet way, noting that her feelings shifted throughout the day.

Since marrying Austen Rydell, Lourd has welcomed two children, a son in 2020 and a daughter in 2022. She frequently honors Fisher’s memory and cherishes the moments her kids spend with their father, highlighting the importance of family bonds. Lourd concluded her post with gratitude, saying she would always miss her mother.

Carrie Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center at the age of 60. The actress had suffered a medical emergency on a flight from London to Los Angeles days earlier. Emergency responders performed CPR, and Fisher was placed on a ventilator but ultimately did not survive.

Following her death, an investigation revealed multiple contributing factors, including cardiac arrest, sleep apnea, and arterial blockages.

Traces of drugs including cocaine, heroin, and MDMA were also found in her system, though investigators could not determine their exact impact. Billie Lourd has been open about her mother’s lifelong struggles with addiction and mental illness, saying, “I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles.”

Fisher was known for her candid and humorous approach to life and work. In her 2008 book Wishful Drinking, she wrote, “No matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra.” Her legacy continues to inspire fans and family alike, reminding everyone of her honesty, humor, and enduring impact.
