Kathy Griffin Opens Up About Childhood Trauma, Calls Late Brother a ‘Pedophile’
Comedian Kathy Griffin recently spoke out about her late brother Kenneth, whom she claims was a “ped****,” while reflecting on the tragic deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. The 65-year-old shared her story in a YouTube video titled “Remembering Rob Reiner | Also, a Condemnation of Gun Violence,” discussing both personal pain and the violent events involving the Reiner family.
Griffin, the youngest of five children, said she had rarely talked about Kenneth since her first memoir, Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin. She described her brother as a crack addict who was violent and likely suffered from undiagnosed mental health issues.
“It was heartbreaking watching my parents, John and Maggie, try to save him his whole life,” she said, referencing her late parents’ repeated efforts to help Kenneth.
The comedian alleged that Kenneth’s abusive behavior began in his teenage years. Griffin claimed his first wife told her that he would allegedly beat her severely and even lock her outside in freezing Chicago weather.
She also shared that one of Kenneth’s girlfriends alleged he had m***** a boy and a girl she knew. “Having your oldest brother be a p******* is something that you don’t ever grow out, you don’t get over it. I wanted to kill him because all I could think about were all those children,” Griffin said, calling Kenneth a “wife-b****** p********.”
Griffin explained that she refused to protect her brother, even when other family members tried to downplay or ignore his abusive actions. “So the expression that blood is thicker than water is not true in my case. I didn’t give a f*** that he was my older brother,” she said.
She added that she repeatedly reported her brother to the Los Angeles Police Department for allegedly m***** children, calling them “once a week,” though she isn’t sure if her relatives are aware of these reports.
Drawing parallels to the recent Reiner tragedy, Griffin said she empathized with Rob and Michele for their attempts to help their son Nick, who was arrested following the deaths of his parents. “I didn’t want to hear anything about how [Rob] should have had security because I watched my parents do everything to help Kenneth,” Griffin said.
On December 14, Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their home by their 28-year-old daughter, Romy Reiner. Their 32-year-old son, Nick, was arrested the following night and is being investigated in connection with the murders.
Griffin’s emotional revelations highlight the long-lasting impact of childhood trauma and growing up around abuse. “You don’t get over it,” she said, reflecting on how her brother’s actions shaped her life.
This story reminds us that family dynamics can be complicated and painful. It also raises questions about how abuse and mental health issues are addressed within families. What do you think about Griffin sharing such personal experiences publicly? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
