Netflix faced technical problems once again as fans rushed to watch the highly anticipated finale of Stranger Things season five. The episode, titled “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” premiered at 5 p.m. PT on New Year’s Eve, and many viewers reported being unable to stream it immediately.

Some users saw error messages on their screens saying, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You’ll find lots to explore on the home page.”

Fans quickly took to X to share their frustrations. One user wrote, “Waking up since 2 am just to watch Netflix crash unreal craze stranger Things finale,” while another added, “NETFLIX CRASH JUST AS IT HITS 1AM OFC IT F***** DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID.”

This wasn’t the first time Netflix has struggled during the release of the series. The platform experienced a brief crash on November 26 when the first part of season five was released. At the time, Netflix said, “Some members briefly experienced an issue streaming on TV devices, but service recovered for all accounts within five minutes.”

The repeated crashes highlight how much demand there still is for the show, even after nine years on air. It also raises questions about whether Netflix is prepared for large-scale premieres, especially for major cultural events like the Stranger Things finale.

It’s impressive that the show still draws such a massive audience, but Netflix really needs to prepare better for big releases. Fans should be able to watch without interruptions, especially for finales that millions are waiting for. What do you think about Netflix crashing again during the finale? Did it ruin your viewing experience, or were you able to get back in quickly? Share your thoughts in the comments.
