Duffer Brothers Finally Address The Future of Robin and Vickie’s Relationship in ‘Stranger Things’

The final moments of Stranger Things gave fans a look at the future of many characters from Hawkins. But one person was missing, and viewers noticed right away. Vickie did not appear in the closing flash-forward, and her name was not mentioned. This quickly led to questions about what happened to her and whether she is still with Robin.

The show ends with a time jump that shows where most of the main characters are headed. While many relationships were confirmed, Robin’s story felt unfinished. Fans began to wonder if her romance with Vickie had ended.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer spoke about this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. They said they talked about Vickie’s future while working on the ending, but they chose not to spell it out on screen.

“We did talk about where Vickie ended up,” Ross Duffer said. He explained that the final scenes were meant to stop at a certain point. “We want to leave it a little bit up to fans in terms of where these characters end up ultimately,” he added. “Do Robin and Vickie stay together? Maybe, maybe not.”

Matt Duffer shared a more realistic view of the situation. He said most relationships that start in high school do not last after graduation.

“From my point of view and from everyone I knew in high school, what percentage of couples remain together after they leave for college? Extremely low,” he said. He also pointed out that some couples are different. “Max and Lucas survive because their love is that deep, but very few others do.” Still, he left room for hope, adding, “But, you never know.”

Robin and Vickie’s relationship had been building for a long time. Robin had feelings for Vickie throughout season four. At the start of the final season, the two were shown as a couple. Vickie even learned about the Upside Down and helped during the final fight.

Some fans felt there were hints that the relationship may not have lasted. Robin and Vickie were not seen together at graduation, and a comment Robin made about “overbearing significant others” raised eyebrows. Others believe that line was just a joke and not meant to say anything about Vickie.

While Robin and Vickie’s status remains unclear, the finale did confirm that Max and Lucas are still together. It also showed that Joyce and Hopper are engaged. Not every love story was left open-ended.
