HBO Locks In Season 3 for Its Biggest Hit Before Season 2 Even Premieres
HBO Max is showing strong confidence in its medical drama The Pitt. The streaming service has renewed the series for a third season before season two has even started.
The announcement was made by HBO and HBO Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys. He shared the news during a season two premiere event held in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. The information comes directly from HBO. Season two of the show is set to premiere on Thursday.
The new season picks up months after the events of the first season. The story moves forward and gives the characters time to process the serious and violent moments that took place inside the hospital earlier in the series. Noah Wyle returns as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, continuing his role as the lead.

The Pitt was created by R. Scott Gemmill, who previously worked with Wyle on ER. The cast also includes Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi. Even though some characters faced major trauma and possible exits last season, both LaNasa’s nurse Dana Evans and Ball’s Dr. Langdon will appear again in season two.
The series had a huge impact in its first year. Season one won five Emmy Awards, including best drama series. Noah Wyle won best actor, and Katherine LaNasa received the award for supporting actress. These wins helped cement the show as one of HBO’s strongest recent hits.
The Pitt is produced by John Wells Productions along with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, Noah Wyle, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich.
