Margot Robbie Opens Up About the Scene She Really Didn’t Want to Shoot

Margot Robbie has had an impressive rise in Hollywood, appearing in films like I, Tonya, Suicide Squad, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Babylon, and even playing Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 hit.

But looking back, one of her earliest roles was in The Wolf of Wall Street at just 22 years old. Working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio was a huge opportunity, but Robbie admits that filming certain scenes made her extremely nervous.

In an interview with IndieWire, Robbie spoke about the nursery scene in the film, where her character seduces and teases her husband while he hides a camera in a teddy bear. “She’s touching herself, effectively masturbating,” Robbie explained.

She admitted she was “secretly dreading that scene,” adding that it “was going to be more uncomfortable to watch than the s** scene at the end. It was going to be really awkward.”

Robbie also spoke to Porter Magazine about how awkward it was to film such intimate moments in front of a large crew. “It doesn’t come across when you’re watching the movie, but in reality, we’re in a tiny bedroom with 30 crew crammed in. All men. And for 17 hours I’m pretending to be touching myself. It’s just a very weird thing and you have to bury the embarrassment and absurdity, really deep, and fully commit,” she said.

The actress also discussed the earlier sex scene in the movie, before Jordan punches Naomi’s stomach. “We just wanted it to be just the most tragic s** scene you’ve ever seen. Just uncomfortable, and tragic. Uncomfortable, because we wanted him to be so unaware of her repulsion towards him,” Robbie said.

She explained that the scene shows the twisted dynamic between the characters: Jordan has a s***** obsession with Naomi, while Naomi uses her s****** to manipulate him. “So they both play these weird sort of messed up s** games to just mess with each other,” she added.
