Pop star Billie Eilish has spoken out against ICE after a tragic incident in Minneapolis that left a local woman dead. Renee Nicole Good, a poet and mother of three, was shot on January 7 by an ICE agent during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation, sparking protests across the country. Good was also involved in volunteer neighborhood patrols monitoring ICE activity in Minneapolis.

On January 9, Eilish used her Instagram to repost several posts condemning the agency. One graphic described ICE as a “federally funded and supported terrorist group”, highlighting that the agency is “tearing apart families, terrorising citizens, and now murdering innocent people,” according to Billboard.

Another post she shared called for ICE to be abolished, citing 32 people who reportedly died in ICE custody last year. A third post urged Americans to contact their congressional representatives to push for ICE to be defunded and demanded that the officer involved in Good’s death be arrested and charged.

Eilish has long been outspoken about political issues. She has criticized President Trump’s policies and has been a vocal advocate for gun control. Following the Brown University shooting in December, she spoke up about the need for stricter gun laws.

In 2023, she appeared in a video titled Artist For Action To Prevent Gun Violence, joining other musicians to push for legislative change. She also encouraged her fans to demand stricter gun laws in 2019 after deadly mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

The Minneapolis shooting has drawn attention from other prominent figures as well. Neil Young commented on the incident, urging Americans to “rise up” against ICE.

In response to public outcry over the shooting, ICE has reportedly stopped running ads on Spotify.

Eilish’s posts are part of her ongoing activism and use her platform to bring attention to both immigration enforcement practices and broader social issues.

It’s clear that Eilish is committed to speaking out, but this raises a larger question: what actions will follow? Should ICE face stricter oversight or reform? Share your thoughts in the comments.
