Julia Roberts stole the spotlight at Sunday’s Golden Globes, earning a standing ovation from the audience. The actress, 58, returned to the awards show for the first time in five years, and her presence clearly excited Hollywood.

Roberts walked onto the stage to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and the entire ballroom rose to its feet. She joked with the crowd as they cheered, “I’m gonna be impossible for at least a week. I appreciate that.”

For the evening, Roberts wore a classic black gown with a plunging neckline. She accessorized with a chunky, sparkling strawberry pendant and matching ring. Her curly hair, dyed a red-tinged blonde, complemented the jewelry. During her presentation, she gave a shoutout to Eva Victor for her performance in Sorry Baby and thanked comedian Kevin Hart, who was seated near the stage, for staying until the end of the ceremony.

Roberts was also a nominee that night for Best Female Actor in a Drama for her role in After the Hunt. She lost the award to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet. Roberts admitted she had asked Kevin Hart to stay after she lost, showing her lighthearted side.

After the Hunt is a psychological thriller that has sparked discussion. Roberts plays Alma Imhoff, a Yale philosophy professor trying to earn tenure. Her character faces a tough situation when her young protégé, Maggie (played by Ayo Edebiri), accuses Alma’s close friend and colleague, Hank (Andrew Garfield), of s***** assault. The story explores loyalty, difficult decisions, and a long-kept secret that could be exposed.

Despite not winning, Roberts received an outpouring of admiration throughout the night. The Golden Globes audience and Hollywood insiders seemed thrilled to see her back on the stage after several years away from awards shows.
