Robert Pattinson’s Hidden Role in ‘Marty Supreme’ Just Got Revealed by Josh Safdie
Robert Pattinson has a hidden role in the new movie “Marty Supreme,” and director Josh Safdie just revealed the secret. Speaking at London’s BFI Southbank, Safdie explained that Pattinson provides the voice of the umpire during a British Open ping pong scene in the film.
“No one knows this, but that voice — the commentator, the umpire — is Pattinson,” Safdie said. “It’s like a little easter egg. Nobody knows about that. … He came and watched some stuff and I was like, I don’t know any British people. So he’s the umpire.”

Pattinson’s cameo comes after his collaboration with the Safdie brothers on the 2017 thriller “Good Time,” in which he played Connie, a criminal trying to free his brother from police custody. In “Marty Supreme,” he doesn’t appear on screen but adds a subtle touch as the voice of the announcer during a tense match featuring Timothée Chalamet’s character, Marty Mauser.
The revelation also sheds light on a past interview with Vanity Fair, where Pattinson was asked if he wanted to work with the Safdies again. He said yes, but the polygraph tester marked the answer as “deceptive.” Pattinson laughed at the result, saying, “That’s crazy.” It seems he might have been keeping this secret role under wraps at the time.
Safdie also shared his thoughts on Chalamet, who stars in “Marty Supreme.” He recalled meeting Chalamet at the afterparty for “Good Time” and immediately being impressed by the young actor. “He’s a movie star. This intense dreamer. Relentless, driven, this New Yorker, you know?” Safdie said. He wrote the script for Chalamet specifically, inspired by the actor’s energy and vision.
Pattinson is also set to appear alongside Chalamet in “Dune: Part Three,” playing the villain Scytale. Meanwhile, Safdie admitted during a Q&A that planning his next film can be exhausting. “After each film, I’ve got no more gas left in the car. So I’ve got to like, go find a gas station, you know?”
It’s fun to see Pattinson quietly pop up in a movie without anyone noticing at first. Hidden cameos like this are a treat for fans who pay close attention. What do you think about Pattinson’s secret role in “Marty Supreme”? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
