Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson stepped into the spotlight this week as they celebrated the launch of their new Peacock series, Ponies. The two actresses arrived together at the New York City premiere on January 14, which took place at The Whitby Hotel. They appeared relaxed and close as they greeted guests and posed for photos. Several other cast members also attended, including Artjom Gilz, Petro Ninovskyi, Nicholas Podany, and Vic Michaelis. Information about the event and series has been shared through Peacock and entertainment media coverage.

Ponies is set during the Cold War and takes place in Moscow in the late 1970s. The story follows two women who work quietly at the American Embassy. At first, they are considered unimportant staff members.

Their lives change after their husbands die under unclear circumstances. That tragedy pulls them into a dangerous new role working for the CIA. Clarke plays Bea, a smart and educated woman with strong ties to Russian culture. Richardson plays Twila, who comes from a small town and is bold and unafraid. Together, their characters are drawn into a larger political mystery that puts them at risk.

The show was created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, with Fogel also directing and Iserson serving as showrunner. Clarke is not only starring in the series but also worked as an executive producer. Filming began in early 2025 in Budapest, Hungary. Haley Lu Richardson joined the project later in 2024, followed by other cast additions in 2025. The series is produced by Universal Television.

Ponies officially premiered on Peacock on January 15, 2026. The first season includes eight episodes, each running about an hour. Early reviews have been strong. Rotten Tomatoes reports a high approval score based on early critic feedback, while Metacritic lists generally positive reviews. These ratings suggest the series has made a solid first impression.
