Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, 81 and 56, Surprise Fans with Family Photo from Antarctica
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have traded the red carpet for the icy landscapes of the South Pole to ring in the new year.
The Hollywood power couple, aged 81 and 56 respectively, embarked on an adventurous family expedition to Antarctica. They were joined on this frozen getaway by their two adult children, 25-year-old son Dylan and 22-year-old daughter Carys.
The family documented their journey to the bottom of the world with a cheerful photo shared on social media. The caption accompanying the image was brief but enthusiastic, reading, “Greetings from Antarctica!” In the snapshot, the quartet appears well-prepared for the extreme polar elements while seated on the edge of a Zodiac boat.
They are dressed in matching bright red heavy-duty parkas and black waterproof trousers, creating a striking contrast against the white background. Everyone is wearing life vests, sunglasses, and beanies as they pose in front of a breathtaking vista of massive glaciers and snow. The trip serves as a bonding experience for the close-knit clan as the younger generation prepares to enter the entertainment industry.
Carys revealed in October of last year that she is seriously considering a career in the performing arts, which would see her following in the footsteps of her famous parents. She explained that she grew up around the theater and has a deep appreciation for the craft. Although she did not strictly study acting in school, she hopes to move in that direction professionally.
This transition comes after she graduated from Brown University in May 2025 with a degree in film and international relations. Her older brother Dylan is also not far from the family business and the allure of Hollywood. He graduated from Brown University as well, finishing his studies in 2022.
Dylan is reportedly set to make his film debut soon in a project titled I Will Come to You, described as a psychological thriller. This family escape to the end of the world comes shortly after a major personal milestone for the couple. In November, Douglas and Zeta-Jones celebrated their silver wedding anniversary, marking 25 years of marriage.
The actress shared an emotional tribute on Instagram on November 18 to commemorate the special occasion. She reflected on their wedding day in 2000 and sent a message to her husband saying she loves him “today as I did then.” Their enduring marriage is considered a rarity in the entertainment industry, having survived over two decades in the spotlight.
Before his marriage to Zeta-Jones, Douglas was married to Diandra Luker for 18 years before they divorced in 1995. From that first marriage, Douglas has a 47-year-old son, Cameron Douglas, who is also an actor and author. Michael Douglas himself is the son of the legendary Kirk Douglas, making Dylan and Carys the third generation of this acting dynasty.
In recent years, he found renewed success and a younger fanbase through his role as Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man franchise. On the small screen, he garnered critical acclaim for his starring role in the Netflix comedy series The Kominsky Method, which earned him a Golden Globe. Most recently, he starred in the Apple TV+ limited series Franklin, where he portrayed the founding father Benjamin Franklin during his diplomatic mission to France.
Recently,Catherine Zeta-Jones has captivated audiences as the iconic matriarch Morticia Addams in the smash-hit Netflix series Wednesday. Working alongside Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton, Zeta-Jones brought a glamorous and gothic energy to the role. The show became one of the streaming platform’s most-watched series of all time, with a second season highly anticipated by fans.
