Nearly a year and a half after Shannen Doherty’s death, her ex-husband Kurt Iswarienko has reignited a legal battle over their divorce settlement. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Iswarienko filed a motion challenging whether the Los Angeles court has the authority to enforce the agreement.

The dispute began after Doherty’s estate accused him of failing to follow the terms of their settlement. The agreement, signed by Doherty on July 12, 2024, just a day before she passed away from cancer, required Iswarienko to sell the couple’s home in Dripping Springs, Texas, and return personal items to the estate, including a collection of photographs. The estate claims he has not complied.

“He has failed to show he has authority under the trust,” Iswarienko wrote in his motion, questioning the trustee Christopher Cortazzo’s power to demand compliance. By challenging the court’s jurisdiction and the trustee’s authority, he is effectively putting a hold on the estate’s efforts to collect on the assets.

The couple had a long and difficult history. They were married for 11 years before Doherty filed for divorce in 2023. On her podcast, Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, she revealed that she discovered Iswarienko had been having an affair for two years while she was preparing for a surgery to remove a brain tumor. “I couldn’t go into that surgery with him there. I felt so betrayed,” she told her listeners at the time. This betrayal shaped the strict terms of the divorce settlement now under dispute.

Shannen Doherty was best known for her roles in 1990s TV shows like Beverly Hills, 90210 as Brenda Walsh and Charmed as Prue Halliwell. She also appeared in films such as Heathers and Mallrats. Even during her battle with cancer, she stayed active in the industry, including appearing in the BH90210 meta-reboot and hosting her podcast, where she shared updates on her treatment and life.

The estate argues that Iswarienko has not sold the Texas home or returned personal belongings, and the failure to follow through is stalling the final resolution of Doherty’s affairs. Fans and followers continue to watch the case closely as it unfolds in court.
