Trump Says He’s Skipping the Super Bowl and Blasts Bad Bunny and Green Day
President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not be attending the 2026 Super Bowl in San Francisco. In an exclusive interview with The Post, Trump explained that his decision is influenced by the musical acts chosen for the halftime show. He specifically criticized Latin rap star Bad Bunny and rock band Green Day, both of whom have been vocal critics of his administration.
I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible, Trump told The Post. He made it clear that he dislikes the performers, but he claimed that the main reason for skipping the event is the long travel distance to the West Coast, not a direct boycott of the musicians.
It’s just too far away. I would. I’ve [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me, he said, suggesting he might attend if the trip were shorter.
The tension between Trump and the performers comes from their public political disagreements. Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican superstar, mocked the president in his song Nuevayol, using an imitation of Trump’s voice to apologize to immigrants. Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has also been outspoken, recently supporting protesters in Minnesota and saying, I’m not a part of a redneck agenda. I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.
Last year, Trump attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. That game drew attention because Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, were in attendance. This year, however, the combination of the long flight to California and a halftime show featuring political rivals seems to have kept the president in Washington.
The Super Bowl remains America’s most-watched television event, drawing over 120 million viewers annually. The 2026 game at Levi’s Stadium is expected to require heavy security, especially given the high-profile performers who have openly criticized the White House. Bad Bunny and Green Day are set to perform a joint halftime show, and many insiders predict the set will include political messages aimed at the president.
Do you think Trump’s decision is truly about the distance to San Francisco, or is the halftime show lineup the real reason he is staying in D.C.? Let us know in the comments.
