Henry Cavill Slashes Into Action in First Look at Chad Stahelski’s ‘Highlander’ Reboot

Henry Cavill is stepping into a new action chapter with the upcoming Highlander reboot, and fans are finally getting a first look. The actor shared two early images from the film on Instagram on Wednesday, confirming that production is now underway after years of waiting.

The photos were posted directly by Cavill himself, making Instagram the main source of the reveal. Along with the images, he wrote, “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.” The message hints at a long and challenging road to get the movie off the ground.

Cavill was first announced as the star of the Highlander reboot back in 2021, but the project faced several delays. Filming was pushed back again late last year after Cavill suffered an injury during preparation for the role. Now, cameras are finally rolling under the direction of Chad Stahelski, the filmmaker behind the John Wick movies.

While the first-look images don’t give away much about the story, the tone feels intense and gritty. In one photo, Cavill is seen holding a large sword, leaning heavily into the franchise’s iconic combat style. The visuals also suggest the film will take place across multiple locations, pointing to a global storyline rather than a single setting.

The reboot has a stacked cast alongside Cavill. Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang are all set to appear. The script was written by Michael Finch, with earlier versions developed by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.

The Highlander story began in 1986 with the original film starring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior born in Scotland centuries ago. Sean Connery played his mentor, while Clancy Brown took on the role of the villain. The movie later grew into sequels, TV shows, and other spin-offs, keeping the franchise alive for decades.

This new version looks ready to bring Highlander back in a big way, mixing sword fights with modern action style. With Cavill leading and Stahelski directing, expectations are already high.
