Antony Starr, best known for playing the violent superhero Homelander on the Amazon series The Boys, was involved in a serious real-life incident while working overseas. The situation happened in Spain in 2022 and later led to a criminal conviction, according to reports from Spanish media.

Starr was in the city of Alicante at the time, filming a movie directed by Guy Ritchie that was later released as Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant. One night, after drinking at a local bar, the actor got into an argument with a young man who worked as a chef. The outlet La Información reported that the disagreement quickly turned physical.

Police records say Starr punched the 21-year-old man in the face more than once. The situation became worse when Starr allegedly hit him with a glass bottle, which broke and caused injuries near the man’s eye. During the fight, the victim later told police that Starr made a serious threat. He claimed the actor said, You’ve committed the mistake of your life… I want to take your life.

An ambulance took the injured man to the hospital, where doctors treated him and gave him several stitches. Police arrested Starr shortly after the incident, following a call from someone who witnessed what happened. He spent two nights in jail before appearing in a Spanish court.

During the hearing, Starr admitted to the assault. The judge handed him a one-year suspended prison sentence, which meant he would not go to jail as long as he followed the rules. The court also ordered him to pay more than $5,000 to the victim and stay out of trouble for two years. This outcome was confirmed by local court reporting shared with Spanish news outlets.

The incident surprised many fans because of how closely it resembled the rage-filled character Starr plays on screen. Still, the case did not end his acting career. After the trial, he continued working on The Boys and appeared in its animated spin-off. He also completed filming on The Covenant alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

In recent years, Starr has stayed busy. He has taken on new roles in films and television and is set to return as Homelander for the final season of The Boys, which is expected to air in April. He has never spoken publicly in detail about the Spain incident.

While the case is now several years old, it still comes up when fans talk about the actor and his intense performances. The story remains a reminder that serious actions off screen can follow even the most successful stars.

It is hard to fully separate an actor’s work from real-life behavior when the situation is this serious. Still, people may judge it differently depending on how much they believe personal actions should affect a career. What do you think? Should an actor’s off-screen mistakes change how we see their work, or should the two stay separate? Share your thoughts in the comments.
