ydney Sweeney has built a career on the back of high-profile roles and public scrutiny, yet the actor has revealed that her private life remained a sanctuary for nearly a decade. In a candid cover interview with Cosmopolitan published January 29, the 28-year-old opened up about her long-term relationship with ex-fiancé Jonathan Davino. The romance, which spanned seven and a half years, was kept intentionally hidden from the headlines that usually follow her every move.

The couple, who first sparked dating rumors in 2018 and became engaged in 2022, officially called it quits in March 2025. Sweeney explained that maintaining that privacy was essential as she navigated her 20s. I was very private. No one would ever see us. I think it’s important to have some things for myself, she said, noting that trying to figure out love with millions of people watching is an impossible task.

Since the split, the transition back into the dating world has been an emotional hurdle for the Euphoria star. Sweeney admitted to spending months crying my eyes out as she attempted to figure out how to meet someone new. Having never used a dating app and finding it impossible to simply meet someone at a bar like her non-famous friends, she confessed to feeling a bit lost in the current landscape.

The actress also addressed the relentless tabloid speculation that now surrounds her single life. I wake up and I find out I’m dating a different guy anytime I stand in a room where there’s a single man, she claimed. Despite brief rumors linking her to music executive Scooter Braun and sightings with Davino as they maintained a friendly post-split rapport, sources say she has fully moved on.

Sweeney’s professional life, however, has never been more vibrant. She is currently enjoying the massive success of her psychological thriller The Housemaid, which hit theaters in late 2025. Directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, the film features Sweeney as a live-in employee harboring dark secrets, and its box office performance has already led to a greenlit sequel.

Her transformative performance in the sports biopic Christy, where she played legendary boxer Christy Martin, has also been a highlight of her recent work. To prepare for the role, Sweeney underwent a rigorous physical training program, gaining muscle and power to embody the champion. The film, which features Ben Foster and Merritt Wever, explored both the triumphs and the domestic struggles of the boxing icon.

Looking toward the remainder of 2026, Sweeney’s schedule is packed with prestige projects and blockbusters. She is set to begin production on the Kim Novak biopic Scandalous!, directed by Colman Domingo, and has officially joined the cast of Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie. Fans are also eagerly awaiting her return as Cassie Howard in the third season of Euphoria, which is scheduled to debut on April 12.
