Ariana Grande recently proved that even a global superstar isn’t immune to a digital hiccup, and she handled the situation with her trademark wit. While sharing photos from her Vogue Japan cover story on January 26, fans quickly noticed a peculiar detail in one of the images. In a shot featuring the actress in a floral Dior ensemble and sheer white gloves, an editing error made it appear as if she had a sixth finger on her left hand.

The 32-year-old Wicked: For Good star didn’t shy away from the gaffe once it began circulating on social media. Holy s*** she commented on a fan account that pointed out the mistake. Oh my goodness how exciting. I’ve been saying i need some extra appendages so that i can start an album ! thankful for this.

The playful response turned a potential PR headache into a moment of connection with her audience, although the publication has since corrected the image in its digital edition.

Beyond the viral “six-finger” moment, the interview delved into much deeper territory. Grande became visibly emotional when discussing the grounding influence of her mother, Joan Grande, especially during the highs and lows of her dual career in music and film. I feel like there have been a lot of times when I’ve been doing my best work creatively, and yet my celebrity has been louder than the work, she explained through tears.

She credited her mother for reminding her of her worth as an artist and human being whenever the “noise” of fame became too overwhelming.

The singer also reflected on the recent loss of her grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande, who passed away at age 99 in June 2025. Grande revealed that she carries physical reminders of her Nonna with her at all times, including the specific brand of ChapStick her grandmother favored. She described her attempt to channel her strength always, often recalling Nonna’s blunt, signature advice to just say, F*** ’em, when facing public scrutiny.

Professionally, 2026 is shaping up to be a definitive year for the star as she pivots toward more diverse acting roles. Following the massive success of the two-part Wicked adaptation, where her performance as Glinda earned her second consecutive Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations, she is currently in post-production for the comedy Focker In-Law. In this fourth installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, she stars alongside veterans Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro as a character named Olivia Jones.

In addition to her film work, Grande is set to join the cast of American Horror Story for its thirteenth season, marking a return to the “slasher” and campy horror roots she first explored in Scream Queens.

She also recently teased a mysterious new project that contains multitudes, though she has kept the specific details under wraps. For fans of her music, the wait is almost over; she is preparing to kick off her Eternal Sunshine tour in June 2026, which will span North America and the U.K.
