Fans Celebrate as Netflix Brings Back Hit Series for Season 3

Netflix has officially renewed the comedy series A Man on the Inside for a third season, Deadline reports. The news comes just over two months after the second season premiered on November 20, 2025.

The show, created by Mike Schur, stars Ted Danson as Charles Nieuwendyk, a retiree who becomes an amateur private investigator. Season 2 followed Charles as he went undercover at Wheeler College to investigate a mysterious blackmailer targeting the school’s president. The second season also featured Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, and Mary Steenburgen, alongside Max Greenfield, Gary Cole, Michaela Conlin, and several other notable actors.

Despite a drop in viewership from the first season, Netflix is moving forward with Season 3. Season 2 drew 9.8 million viewers after its premiere, and although it didn’t crack the weekly Top 10 for English-language series, it holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The streaming service appears confident that the combination of critical acclaim and strong creative leadership from Schur and Danson is enough to continue the show.

“We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Netflix on another season of A Man on the Inside,” Schur said in a statement. “It’s a true joy to work with this entire team, most especially the handsome, erudite, and monstrously talented Ted Danson, a true American treasure whose contract stipulates exactly what adjectives I am allowed to use while describing him in press releases.”

A Man on the Inside is based on the 2020 documentary The Mole Agent by Maite Alberdi. The series is executive produced by Mike Schur for Fremulon, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez for Micromundo Producciones, Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements for Motto Pictures, and Morgan Sackett. Universal Television is the studio producing the show.

With Season 3 confirmed, fans can expect more of Charles’s clever investigations and comedic misadventures. Netflix’s decision shows that strong writing, talented actors, and critical praise can outweigh fluctuations in viewership, especially for comedies.
