The newly released trailer for A24’s The Drama suggests that even the strongest romantic bonds might crumble under the weight of the truth. Starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, the film explores the volatile week leading up to a wedding that is suddenly threatened by a dark secret.

According to the official synopsis and promotional materials, the story centers on a couple who seem perfectly matched until a single revelation changes their perspective on everything.

Zendaya takes on the role of Emma Harwood, a professional at a publishing house who is navigating the highs of her first truly deep romance. Her partner is Charlie Thompson, played by Pattinson, a British museum director who appears to be the steady anchor in her life.

The trailer highlights a pivotal scene during an evening with friends, played by Alana Haim and Mamoudou Athie, where a casual game of sharing past mistakes takes a catastrophic turn.

While the specific details of Emma’s confession are kept hidden from the audience in the footage, the fallout is immediate and visible. The tension between the couple becomes palpable as Emma tries to dismiss the weight of the information, telling Charlie you have to stop thinking about it to ease the strain.

Charlie, clearly shaken by what he has learned, pushes back by explaining that you can’t just say, ‘stop thinking about it,’ while he struggles to reconcile the woman he loves with the secret she kept.

The film is written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the Norwegian visionary behind the quirky and critically acclaimed Dream Scenario. Known for blending grounded human emotions with unsettling, surreal situations, Borgli seems to be taking a psychological approach to this romantic thriller. Produced by Ari Aster’s Square Peg banner, the movie carries a sense of impending dread that is common in Aster’s own horror-leaning projects.

This project is actually just the beginning of a major professional partnership for the two lead actors, as they are slated to appear in three different films together this year. Beyond their roles in The Drama, fans will see them again in Christopher Nolan’s high-profile adaptation of The Odyssey this July. They are also both part of the ensemble for Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled to close out the year in December.

Zendaya is currently entering what many are calling her biggest career era yet, with five major projects releasing across multiple genres. In addition to her film work, her Emmy-winning HBO series Euphoria is finally making its long-awaited return for a third season this spring. She will also be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as MJ in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside her real-life fiancé, Tom Holland.

Robert Pattinson has been equally productive, moving between large-scale blockbusters and smaller indie dramas. Aside from his work with Zendaya He is also preparing to return as the Caped Crusader in the sequel to The Batman, which is currently scheduled for an October 2027 release date.

Which of Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s three upcoming collaborations are you most excited to see on the big screen this year? Share your thoughts in the comments.
