Andy Dick has a way of turning even the most harrowing brushes with death into a punchline that feels uniquely his own. During a recent guest appearance on the podcast Hate To Break It To Ya, the veteran comedian sat down with host Jamie Kennedy to recount a terrifying afternoon on a Hollywood sidewalk.

The conversation eventually turned to the moment Dick was revived after a drug overdose that left him unresponsive in broad daylight. Rather than a profound realization or a moment of quiet reflection, the star revealed that his immediate impulse was to hunt for a drink.

Where’s the vodka?!? was the first thing out of his mouth according to the comedian. He recalled smoking an unknown substance on the street before slumping over and losing consciousness, prompting a desperate rescue effort from those nearby.

One of his friends reportedly acted fast by running across the street to a CVS to purchase Narcan. The life-saving medication was administered through his nose to reverse the effects of what turned out to be an opioid overdose.

As soon as the Narcan took effect and he came to, Andy says the booze was already on his brain. This singular focus on spirits is consistent with his long-standing reputation, as sources close to the actor have noted he has been known to consume more than a fifth of vodka a day.

His daily routine often involves taking swigs from the moment he wakes up until he finally passes out at night. This latest health scare served as a catalyst for his most recent attempt at a clean slate.

As of early 2026, Andy has completed a 50-day stint in a professional rehabilitation facility. He is currently residing in a sober-living home as he attempts to navigate the early stages of a long-term recovery.

While his personal life has been a whirlwind of headlines, many fans still look back at his influential comedy career with nostalgia. He first broke through as a cast member on the short-lived but legendary Ben Stiller Show in the early nineties.

His most recognizable role remains the clumsy and eccentric reporter Matthew Brock on the hit NBC sitcom NewsRadio. He also found success on ABC as Owen Kronsky in the series Less than Perfect, which ran for four seasons.

Beyond the small screen, Dick has built a massive filmography of cult classics and voice-over work. He played the villainous Nuka in The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and voiced Boingo the bunny in the animated hit Hoodwinked!

His live-action film credits include memorable turns in Road Trip, Dude, Where’s My Car?, and Zoolander. In many of these projects, he starred alongside comedy heavyweights like Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell.

Despite his recent legal and health struggles, he has remained active in the independent film scene.

Recovery is a steep mountain to climb, but the 60-year-old performer seems to be taking it one day at a time in his new environment. Whether this latest wake-up call leads to a permanent change remains to be seen by those who have followed his journey for decades.

The world of comedy is often a reflection of the darkness artists face behind the scenes. Please share your thoughts on Andy’s latest update and his road to recovery in the comments.
