Prime Video is taking a bold new approach to Sherlock Holmes with its upcoming series Young Sherlock, set to premiere on March 4. Instead of retelling familiar tales, the show rewinds to the detective’s youth, before the iconic image of the pipe, the deerstalker hat, and the legendary persona took hold. The trailer and key art have just dropped, giving fans a first look at the series.

The show follows a young, defiant Sherlock as he encounters James Moriarty and gets drawn into a dangerous murder case that threatens his freedom. What begins as a single investigation quickly spirals into a globe-spanning conspiracy, shaping the early years of the detective before he becomes the figure everyone knows from Baker Street. The story is set in Victorian England and beyond, exploring the origins of Sherlock’s intellect, courage, and moral complexity.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin, known for the After film series, stars as the young detective. Dónal Finn plays Moriarty, with a supporting cast that includes Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons, and Colin Firth. Guy Ritchie, who directed the first two Sherlock Holmes films, helms the first two episodes of the series, bringing his signature style of action and visual flair to the early adventures of the detective.

The series is created and executive produced by showrunner Matthew Parkhill. Other executive producers include Dhana Rivera Gilbert, Marc Resteghini, Simon Maxwell, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Kelton, and Colin Wilson, with co-executive producers Harriet Creelman and Steve Thompson. Production was led by Motive Pictures.

Ritchie’s involvement has prompted speculation about whether he might return to direct a third Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. While nothing has been confirmed, fans can at least enjoy this new take on the character in a serialized format first.

“It’s a chance to explore Sherlock before the legend, before the persona becomes myth,” The Playlist reports, highlighting the show’s approach to the character. “The story sketches the early shape of the legend before the Baker Street version calcifies into myth.”

Young Sherlock will be available exclusively on Prime Video starting March 4. Fans can expect a mix of mystery, suspense, and international intrigue as the series delves into the making of one of literature’s most enduring detectives.
