Sophie Turner has been spotted in the middle of action-packed filming for the new Tomb Raider Amazon Prime series, taking on the iconic role of Lara Croft for the first time. The 29-year-old star braved pouring rain and chilly British weather while performing her own stunts in Surrey, UK.

The series, adapted for TV by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, marks Turner’s first time stepping into the role previously played by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. In recently released images, Sophie can be seen soaring over a lake on a parachute, harnessed safely as cameras captured the sequence. She swapped Lara’s classic tank top and shorts for grey cargo trousers and a navy gilet, showing both style and grit as she tackled the scene.

Sophie revealed she has been training for the role for almost a year. “I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January,” she told ScreenRant. “I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.”

The series will also feature high-profile cast members, including Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Celia Imrie. Sophie’s take on Lara Croft follows in the footsteps of previous actresses but comes under the guidance of Waller-Bridge, who described Turner as “formidable” when announcing the casting last year. Waller-Bridge added: “Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out — Croft is coming.”

Turner herself shared her excitement, saying last September: “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

It’s clear Sophie Turner is fully committed to bringing Lara Croft to life, and fans are already buzzing about what promises to be a thrilling new take on the beloved video game series.

Sophie’s dedication to performing her own stunts and diving deep into the character shows she’s ready to make Lara Croft her own. The mix of action, adventure, and Waller-Bridge’s creative touch could make this series one of the most exciting Tomb Raider adaptations yet.
