The film, directed by Fastvold, tells the story of Ann Lee, founder of the Shakers, a devotional sect known for its teachings on gender and social equality. Searchlight describes the movie as “capturing the ecstasy and agony of her quest to build a utopia, featuring more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined as rapturous movements with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall and an original score by Daniel Blumberg.”

Although the movie premiered in the United States last month, it is set to hit UK theaters on February 20. Seyfried has already earned critical acclaim for her role, receiving a Best Actress nomination at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards for her passionate and transformative performance.
2026 has already been a busy year for Seyfried. She recently starred in the psychological thriller The Housemaid alongside Sydney Sweeney, which became a box office hit. Critics praised her portrayal of Nina Winchester as one of her best thriller performances. On the small screen, she headlined the Peacock crime drama Long Bright River, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Limited Series.
Looking ahead, Seyfried is set to voice a role in the upcoming animated series Ted: The Animated Series. Rumors also suggest she may star in Sean Baker’s secret project Sandiwara, which could premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival later this month.
