The new film continues the story of Cliff Booth, the stuntman Pitt played in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. That performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2020. The original movie followed Booth and actor Rick Dalton as they dealt with major changes in Hollywood during the late 1960s.
This new project brings together a major creative team. David Fincher is directing the film, and the screenplay was written by Quentin Tarantino as a spinoff from the 2019 movie. Pitt and Fincher have worked together several times before, including on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Their reunion has already created strong interest around the project.
Early reports about the film appeared in April 2025. Later that summer, photos from the set showed Pitt wearing a long blond wig and a mustache, hinting at the character’s return. Deadline previously reported that the story follows Booth as “a Hollywood studio fixer” after the events of the original film.
The cast also includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, JB Taken, and Corey Fogelmanis. The movie will be released on Netflix, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
The return of Cliff Booth is already getting attention, especially after the Super Bowl teaser surprised viewers. Fans of the original film are now waiting to see how the character’s story continues in this new chapter.
