Henry Cavill is back on set and filming for the new Highlander movie has officially picked up speed again. According to reports from Mail Online, the actor was spotted shooting scenes at Westminster Abbey in London alongside Dave Bautista.

Cavill looked fit and ready after an injury last year forced the production to pause. The actor had hurt himself while training for the demanding fantasy film. Now he has returned to play the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod and jumped straight into heavy action scenes.

The filming at the historic location looked intense. Cavill was covered in fake bruises and blood for the shoot and wore a leather jacket with combat trousers and a dark hoodie. At one point, he filmed stunt scenes where he and Bautista were suspended on wires above a car. Actress Siobhan Cullen also joined the sequence as she rode a motorbike through the scene.

Dave Bautista appeared almost unrecognizable as the villain The Kurgan. He wore long slicked-back hair, a thick beard, and heavy fake blood while dressed as a dark and threatening priest. Even though the two actors play enemies, they looked relaxed and cheerful between takes and were seen laughing together.

The movie is a new version of the 1986 cult classic Highlander. The original film followed a Scottish warrior who discovers he cannot die unless he is beheaded. Over the years, the franchise grew into multiple movies, TV shows, and books after becoming popular on home video.

This reboot has a large cast that includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, and Jeremy Irons. The movie is directed by Chad Stahelski, the filmmaker behind the John Wick series.

Cavill spoke about the role during CinemaCon in April 2024 and teased that fans should expect bigger action than ever before. He said, ‘If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.’

Filming has also taken place across Scotland, including well-known locations like Eilean Donan Castle and Glen Coe. The story will once again focus on immortal warriors fighting a secret war that stretches across centuries.

The news about Cavill returning to set comes at a time when his name is still being mentioned in the ongoing search for the next James Bond. Recent betting trends have shifted toward Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but Cavill continues to be part of the conversation.

This new Highlander movie sounds like a huge action project and fans are clearly excited to see Cavill step into another sword-fighting role. I think this reboot has a lot of pressure because the original has a loyal fan base. Still, the cast and director make it sound promising.
